From the 9th to the 13th of June, members of 3BAtwin from the TMDLab at the University of Galway (GALWAY), Ireland, organised and hosted the first training activity under Work Package 2: a “Summer School on Dielectric Properties Measurements“.
The school brought together 19 leading experts, researchers, and students for an intensive five-day programme, 11 from FC.ID/CIÊNCIAS (in-person and online), 5 from GALWAY and 3 from POLITO. In addition to leading experts participating in 3BAtwin project, the school featured 13 invited speakers from across Europe and North America, including institutions such as McGill University (Canada), George Washington University (USA), Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), the University of Birmingham (UK), the University of Split (Croatia), and industry expert from Philips Medical Systems (Netherlands).

The course spanned a broad spectrum of topics, providing comprehensive theoretical and practical training in the measurement, characterisation, and application of dielectric properties in biomedical contexts. The programme also covered the design, fabrication, and characterisation of Tissue Mimicking Materials (TMMs), essential for testing and validation in biomedical applications. Complementing the theoretical sessions, hands-on training provided participants with practical experience in impedance and dielectric measurements using advanced tools such as four-electrode probes, open-ended coaxial probes, and vector network analysers.
