In the context of the exploratory project of 3BAtwin, Amra Mehboob from the University of Galway (GALWAY) visited Politecnico di Torino (POLITO) from the 8th to the 12th of June. This mission was conducted under the broader objective of antenna design for microwave tomographic imaging of the human calcaneus for osteoporosis assessment, and its activities were focused on the following aspects:
- The experimental testing of the near-field antennas for medical microwave imaging with tissue-mimicking phantoms.
- The use of a customised anechoic chamber and absorbers to mitigate the noise in the RF measurements for improved tomographic imaging.
The knowledge gained from these activities will be further used to develop antennas dedicated to microwave bone imaging.
